Above Palmi, the town where I live, is Sant’ Elia, a mountain which I am incredibly fond of for a number of reasons. I got married there for one. Regardless of the weather, you can look out at the most stunning views in Calabria and this makes it one of the most perfect places to have a a good old-fashioned picnic. Throughout the year but particularly on festas such as Ferragosto and Pasquetta there is a flurry of activity up there as family and friends gather to do what they do best; chatter, eat good food and drink good wine.
There are great paths to wander along and more than your fair share of photo opportunities along the way. There are also a number of good restaurants and pizzerias where you can indulge in some of the local food if you don’t want to cook any yourself!
The Centro Presenza has a park where you can book tables and barbecues with an incredible view. There are also toilet facilities, a children’s playground, a football pitch and small bar as well as the most beautiful chapel in Calabria, not that I’m biased of course 😉
